Welcome – Fàilte

Glasgow to Balmain was originally launched back in the early 2000’s. It became obvious that with the progress of technology, it was time for a remake.

The original site followed the stories of William Hannah (1822-1874) and Agnes Baird (1825-1873) and their descendants. William and Agnes were born in Ayrshire, and migrated towards Glasgow as their family grew. Their descendants that we know of are now found in Scotland, England, Australia and Canada.

The stories on this site now begin with William’s father, William Hannah who married Margaret Lees in Ayrshire 1815. Going further back in time is fraught with genealogical missteps, so we have to tread carefully.

Meanwhile,  we have been pleased to make contact with “cousins” that we never knew before, more information has become available, the stories and family have grown, and more branches grafted in.

Unfortunately, genealogy is a fickle beast with a hunger that can never be satisfied. There is always another angle, another link in the chain, another lead to follow. The story will never be complete in this life at least.

It seems that our particular Hannah surname tree is something of an endangered species. Unless more cousins are discovered, then as far as we know there will be no more “wee bairn’s” born bearing that surname in our line.

The new site now uses WordPress at the front end, which is where you are now. This contains the stories of the individuals we know about.

At the genealogical “back end” is TNG (The Next Generation of Genealogy Site Building), written by Darrin Lythgoe. Here you will find a more detailed genealogy which you are welcome to browse by clicking the “Genealogy” link on any page.

We hope you find our site interesting and informative. We would love you to make contact and add a little more to your story and ours.
